EPR in Manitoba

Manitoba is working towards a transition to full extended producer responsibility (EPR) for residential recycling. EPR is a policy approach where producers are responsible for the full life cycle of packaging and paper products, shifting responsibility from communities to industry.

Under full EPR, producers assume full financial and operational responsibility for residential recycling. Communities would then choose how to deliver recycling collection services locally.

In Manitoba, this transition is being developed through a phased approach, with input from communities and stakeholders.

MMSM works on behalf of the producers with the goal of supporting a consistent, province-wide recycling system while maintaining reliable service for residents.
